Hard Work vs. Luck

Writer: Rawan Elkahky

Hard work means putting a lot of effort into our projects. Luck means things happening by chance rather than because of our own efforts. Luck often has a positive connotation, because it means something good has happened out of pure fortune.

Luck favours only those who help themselves. “The harder you work, the luckier you get”. When you work day and night in pursuit of your dreams, and eventually succeed, some people will call it luck. But this is not luck; it is a result of your hard work. Luck and hard work can seem like opposites, but they’re often more linked than you think. Luck is the positive force that causes good things to happen in our lives, but so is hard work. But how are luck and hard work specifically related?

We get opportunities because of luck. We work hard to make use of these opportunities. Hard work also gives us a sense of personal satisfaction. On the other hand, luck feels like an unexpected gift. But, if you don’t know how to use it, it will eventually fade away. Remember, hard work is a pre-requisite for success.  We can feel lucky that we are able to work hard too. See how they are connected to one another? For instance, we can feel lucky getting to work all day instead of being ill at home. Luck can make us feel as though there is a divine power about us. Such feelings or thoughts should be taken as a positive suggestion to work even harder than before.
