How to Embrace Your Natural Hair

Writer: Rawan Elkahky

Lately, curly-haired girls have been going out from their zone. Curly hair is a blessing we should appreciate. Many girls decide to disguise their beautiful curls by straightening their hair, which is just wrong. Personally speaking, I always used to straighten my hair; I just didn’t feel beautiful with my curls. I was stupid enough to always do it. But one day, I decided I have had enough from being insecure about my own hair, and it was one of the best decisions I have ever taken. I decided to free my hair and admire it in its own way and to take care of it and embrace it.

I know that this is a tough journey. Starting from family’s “hatefdaly mankoosha keda kteer?” to people’s judgments. But promise yourself you’ll still embrace your beautiful hair no matter what people say about the beauty of straight hair. You’ll face a lot of obstacles, like “beautiful curly hair doesn’t appear overnight”. You need to take good care of it. You’ll be spending a lot of time on finding your perfect product for your hair, but once you find it, keep hanging on it.  Second, you need to throw away any thought that you know will damage you hair. Heat coming from straighteners and curling wands will 100% damage your hair, and you’ll never want damaged frizzy hair, am I right?

Your choice. It took me ages to find the perfect routine for my hair. Don’t get fooled by advertisements about the perfect product.

You just need to find out your curls’ type. I know they change a lot, but you need to know if you want perfect hair then. I tell you from now that you’ll spend a lot of money, but it’s worth it. And remember to always stay always away from sulfate hair products. Thank God they started doing free sulfate-free shampoos and conditioners! Never care about the price.

At last, I knew that cheap products are sometimes better than expensive ones. Start doing deep conditioning, for these are the best! Get yourself some and start applying them every week once, and you’ll really see a difference. You can even apply coconut oil, it’s one of the best natural products actually. Chop your hair, or at least always cut your split ends. This helps your hair grow faster and much healthier.

Finally, never feel insecure and be comfortable in your own hair. Never change its shape. Ignore people’s opinions. Try out different hairstyles. And just enjoy every step in every successful step in your new transitions. Lastly, be confident!
