A Realm by the Sea

Writer: Nada el Nady

In a far place near the waves and tides,

In an era where melancholy resides,

There lived a beautiful, little girl

Whose beauty exceeds that of a pearl.

Her black hair is a river of flowing silk,

Her teeth as white as a cup of milk,

Her skin as pale as snow in the cold,

Her stance is bold, her heart is gold.

Her eyes are a warm shade of sapphire,

Yet from grieving became so dire.

She was an angel who from heaven fell,

Yet her survival story was one to tell.

In a far place near the waves and tides,

In an era where melancholy resides,

The girl grew up and became a lady,

Living a life so dark and shady.

The stress lines engraved in her face;

Mourning what’s she’s bound to embrace.

She was solely enduring constant pain,

The darkest of thoughts filling her brain.

She was the queen of her own throne,

For all her life, she’d lived alone.

The days getting lonelier as they pass,

Her heart pricks off like shards of glass.

In a far place near the waves and tides,

In an era where melancholy resides,

The lady grew to become way older,

Surviving without an offered shoulder.

She cried alone and grieved unaided,

Till the sun has slowly faded.

The wrinkles more prominent over time,

Her body so still in the hours of prime.

Her aching soul slowly flew away

While she couldn’t keep her smile at bay

For she knew she’ll finally end her strife,

Even if the cost was losing her life.
