Lanterns

Hang from far and wide
As I walk through the misty souk
That seems endless

In its twisting alleys
Where ornate jewels hang
And vibrant spices rest—

Amidst the loud barter
Of traders whose lives
Are devoted to the sale

Of grand commodities
From all over the near orient,
Commodities which dazzle

And sparkle amongst
The rows of pale light
That flicker as I walk by—

Engulfed by the strange beauty
Of low hanging lanterns.
