Why We Should Accept Ourselves The Way We Are

How many times have people brought you down because of your looks? I suppose, at some point, at least one person tried to make us feel bad about the way we look, and they may or may not have succeeded with it. But if you really accept the way you look, they cannot get to you. So here are a few reasons why you should accept the way you look.

First, you were born the way you are, and the way you look is beyond your control. Of course you could use up some products to soften your skin, or exercise to get control over the shape of your body. However, you can never change some features, you have to embrace them. And you have to embrace any feature before trying to change it. Do not start a skin care routine because someone told you that your skin isn’t clear or soft, and do not exercise because people make you insecure about your body. It is hard to do so with eyes judging you all the time, but if you are changing for the sake of the people, it might be more of a nuisance to you than it is help.

You might as well not change to look like someone. It is good to admire someone and think of them as an idol, but when it gets to the point where you compare yourself to them and start to change just for the sake of looking like them, looking up to them has become toxic. Always remember that photoshop is involved in some cases.

As mentioned earlier, the way you look is beyond your control; however, there are some things you could work on; for example, you could consider changing your style of clothing to something more trendy, as long as you like it and you feel comfortable in it, and remember that any changes you do should be done to yourselves.

Lastly, remember that looks do not define who you are; you could always be a great person. Take as an example: Mother Teresa, who devoted her life to help others, or Ghandi, who is popular for his peaceful and non-violent movements.
